After installing a new computer, we added firefox and I was wondering if there is a way to restore my gadgets that I had before in a simple way.

I had gadgets like local weather, moon phases and Chicago Tribune.
Do I have to search for them again or can I get them back easily on the home page?

The only OSX update that you have available is Snow Leopard (10.6) which you can purchase from the Apple online store and it comes on a disk.  In order to install subsequent OSX's such as Lion, Mt. Lion and Mavericks (which can be downloaded and do not require a disk) it requires that the MBP have 10.6.8 installed.
That of course assumes that your unidentified MBP qualifies for those operating systems.
In short, to proceed any further, you will have to accommodate Snow leopard.
Ciao.

Also, I am wondering if you have any tips to speed up streaming speeds on videos without installing an update. I can no longer watch Netflix or Hulu due to how slow my computer streams videos now. Besides updating my Mac, is there any way to solve this? What may be causing this issue?
